Healthcare Demand & Utilization
Modeled Insights for Inpatient and Emergency Care Volumes
The AGS Healthcare Dataset offers localized estimates of hospital discharges and emergency department procedures, giving healthcare providers, planners, and analysts the insight they need to forecast demand, allocate resources, and identify service gaps.
Built using HCUP data and AGS’s proprietary modeling, the dataset delivers granular, geographically specific projections of healthcare utilization and is ideal for network planning, public health strategy, and market analysis.
What’s Included
- Hospital Discharges: Projected counts and length of stay for 800+ diagnoses, grouped by category and type.
- Emergency Procedures: Modeled volumes for 259 procedures across 17 categories using national ED visit data.
- Geographic Coverage: Available at block group level and higher for detailed, location-specific health planning.
Built for Industry
Public Policy & Government

Methodology
The AGS Healthcare Dataset is derived from the 2010 HCUP Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) and Nationwide Emergency Department Sample (NEDS), encompassing over 36 million events across nearly 2,000 facilities.
Projections are generated by calculating rates per 100,000 population by age, sex, race, and ethnicity, then applied to AGS’s small-area demographic estimates and five-year forecasts. Data is provided to four-digit precision and modeled down to the block group level.
