We are excited to announce our latest data release is now available. Highlights include new and updated tables for our core Estimates and Projections, as well as more than 1,900 new MRI variables. For full details on what has been updated and included, keep reading.

New Estimates Tables

We added age of population and veteran status by disability status from the most recent ACS release, which includes the following variables:

  • VETEXDIS Veterans 18+ with a disability
  • VETEXNOD Veterans 18+ with no disability
  • VETEXNVD Non-veterans 18+ with a disability
  • VETEXNVN Non-veterans 18+ with no disability
  • POPEXU18D Population <18 with a disability
  • POPEXU18N Population <18 with no disability

These variables can be summed to adults 18+ with or without a disability, or all persons with or without a disability.

Our 2025A dataset includes a suite of new demographic variables for group quarters populations:

  • Group Quarters by Sex (Male/Female)
  • Group Quarters by Race/Ethnicity (subset of our full demographic offerings)
  • Group Quarters by 5-Year Age Cohorts

Although we have estimated these tables internally as part of our estimates and projections methodology, we have not in the past provided them to users. These tables have particular relevance in trying to understand the age, sex, and race of both the group quarters population, but perhaps more importantly, the likely consumers who tend to be in households. The presence of these tables allows for the fine tuning of demand estimates where core demographics are important.

Modified Estimates Tables

The ancestry categorization for some native American and Meso-American groups has been changed, although the variable names have not. The new ancestry classification is:

  • ANCAICHK Aztec
  • ANCAICHP Blackfeet Tribe of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation of Montana
  • ANCAINAV Maya
  • ANCAISIO Native Village of Barrow Inupiat Traditional Government
  • ANCAISPC Navajo Nation
  • ANCAIOTH Other American Indian and Alaska Native

Recently Added or Improved

The following tables were added for release 2024B and merit highlighting here, as they greatly expand the usefulness of current income estimates by adding disposable (after tax) and discretionary (after tax, shelter and utility, and grocery expenditures) income. The net worth section of the household finances has been expanded to include distributions of net worth by household count, for both total net worth and net worth excluding primary residence.

  • Households by disposable income
  • Households by discretionary income
  • Households by net worth
  • Households by non-primary residence net worth

MRI Variables

More than 1,900 new variables from MRI-Simmons are included in the new release, keeping that database refreshed for a new year. Highlights include new data on technology and social media usage, as well as current media offerings.

Geography Changes

  • ZIP codes were updated to January 1, 2025 and cartography is available for these updated units.
  • The place layer (places and census designated places) was updated to the 2024 release of TIGER, incorporating recent annexations and municipality creation.
  • Metropolitan area definitions were updated to the latest OMB release, which includes the CB (county based statistical areas), MA (metropolitan areas), and CA (consolidated CBSA’s).
  • The 2022 updates to block, block group, tract, and county layers are available in addition to the 2020 rosters. The 2020 rosters remain the default.
